Chapter 43

Hexagram 43 · Guai · Break-through

King Wen, Duke of Zhou, Confucius · Western Zhou (c.1000 BCE)

Break-through: proclaimed in the king's court, cried out in sincerity. Danger. Report from your city. Unfavorable to use arms. Favorable to go. 1. Mighty in the forward toes. Going without winning brings blame. 2. Cry of alarm. Evening and night — armed. Fear not. 3. Mighty in the cheekbones. Misfortune. The superior man resolute, walks alone in the rain — soaked, angry. No blame. 4. No skin on the thighs — walking with difficulty. Leading the goat: remorse disappears. 5. Dealing with weeds: resolute. Walking the middle: no blame. 6. No cry. In the end, misfortune.
