Hexagram 42 · Yi · Increase

King Wen, Duke of Zhou, Confucius · Western Zhou (c.1000 BCE)

Increase: favorable to go. Favorable to cross great water. 1. Favorable for great works. Supreme good fortune, no blame. 2. Someone increases by ten pairs of tortoise shells — cannot refuse. Lasting perseverance: good fortune. King sacrifices to the Lord. 3. Increase through misfortune. No blame. Sincere, walking the middle way, report to the prince. 4. Walking the middle way, report — followed. Favorable to relocate the capital. 5. Sincere, kind-hearted — need not ask: supreme good fortune. My virtue rewarded. 6. No one increases; someone strikes. Unsteady heart: misfortune.
