Chapter 62

Hexagram 62 · Xiao Guo · Preponderance of the Small

King Wen, Duke of Zhou, Confucius · Western Zhou (c.1000 BCE)

Preponderance of the Small: success. Perseverance furthers. Small matters; not great matters. The flying bird brings the message: not above, but below — great good fortune. 1. The bird meets misfortune through flying. 2. Passing the ancestor, meeting the ancestress. Not reaching the prince, meeting the official. No blame. 3. Not surpassing, be on guard. Following — maybe murdered. Misfortune. 4. No blame — not surpassing, meeting. Going: danger, must be warned. 5. Dense clouds, no rain from our western region. The prince shoots and hits the one in the cave. 6. Not meeting, surpassing. The bird flies away — misfortune. This is called calamity.
