Chapter 54

Hexagram 54 · Gui Mei · The Marrying Maiden

King Wen, Duke of Zhou, Confucius · Western Zhou (c.1000 BCE)

The Marrying Maiden: going brings misfortune. Nothing furthers. 1. Marrying maiden as a secondary wife. A lame man who can walk — going: good fortune. 2. A one-eyed man who can see. Favorable for a solitary man's perseverance. 3. The marrying maiden as a slave — returned as a secondary wife. 4. The marrying maiden delays — late marriage, its time will come. 5. The sovereign Yi gives his daughter. The bride's sleeves not as fine as her maid's. Moon nearly full. Good fortune. 6. The woman holds a basket but no fruit. The man stabs the sheep but no blood. Nothing furthers.
