Chapter 4

Hexagram 4 · Meng · Youthful Folly

King Wen, Duke of Zhou, Confucius · Western Zhou (c.1000 BCE)

Youthful Folly: success. I do not seek the fool; the fool seeks me. First oracle answered; repeated asking is importunity and goes unanswered. 1. To develop the fool, apply discipline. Remove the fetters. 2. Bear with fools kindly. Good fortune. Son capable of managing the household. 3. Take not a maiden who loses herself at the sight of a bronze man. 4. Entangled folly. Humiliation. 5. Childlike folly. Good fortune. 6. Punishing folly. Do not transgress — only prevent.
